Tilos is located 48 miles southeast from Rhodes in Aegean Sea. It is a small island of the Dodecanese, with a total surface of 63 square km. The capital of Tilos is Megalo Horio, a small village dominated by an impressive castle on top of a high mountain above. Tilos is still one of the last virgin, peaceful islands have been left. Some of the beauty things in this island is the clean air, sea and the beautiful beaches. The island produces tomatoes, potatoes, melons, watermelons, fresh fish and feeds goats.

Tilos has nineteen beaches, which You can explore during Your walking round the island. Some of them are not discovered from too many tourists, giving You the sense of privacy. The most popular beaches are Livadia beach (pebbles), the biggest – Eristos beach (sandy), the peaceful Lethra beach (pebbles), the picturesque beach of Saint Antonios (pebbles), the beautiful Plaka beach (pebbles).

All the island is the “Tilos Park”. It has been designed as a Special Protected Area (SPA). Tilos hosts many rare and protected species of flora and fauna. More than 100 bird species are travelling above Tilos island. Plant species of all the representative habitat types and in different soil conditions are found around the island.

From an architectural point of view, Tilos island is fascinating with its seven medieval castles, its Byzantine Monastery, its two hundred churches and Mikro Horio that is a declared cultural monument. The monastery of Saint Panteleimon constitutes an important cultural element of the island’s heritage. From historical point of view, Tilos island holds an important role. In the centre of the island, in Charkadio Cave, the geologists found the fossils of Dwarf Elephants and remains from the Neolithic times, dating back to 4,500 BC, which are considered a very important fact.
